SCity By Adriana Janaína Poeta

Ann and Marc arrived at SCity around noon. The sun dried up and cracked anything that dared to cross the borders of the city in that inhospitable direction. The horses were thirsty and restless.
A few rolls of hay flew through the beaten city of dry land. The wind seemed to whistle a macabre and sad song.
Ann watched intently as she dismounted from her horse. Marc was already standing, next to Bill Zav, a kind of intermediary in the place.
From that point, the entrance to the city, with that immense old bumpy plaque surmounted by the dry bull's carcass, the city's name, SCITY, stood out in red.
Marc threw away his cigarette and squeezed Bill's hand.
- Marc ... Ann ...- He greeted Bill, nodding his head amicably, his hat already dusty and gleaming in the sun burning.
- So, Bill? What's New? - Marc asked, having Ann already by his side.
Bill took a deep breath and pointed to the large mansion that seemed to reign in the city.
- You see? That's the place I told you. From there they have been commanding SCity for decades.
- But is not it a public building? I thought it was a government department ...
- And you're right, Ann. It is a building and a public organ. - Say Bill. -See that other old house on the left? It's the Registry office... Here ... Here ... And there too ... - Bill showed, always pointing in the direction of towering buildings that stood out in the small town. - Everything belongs to the S family. Do you want to buy? Want to sell? Sign an important document or prevent some order from being fulfilled? Do you want to "buy" a special favor or "order" a decision, to delay, make it more difficult, or even that someone lose? ... Well, my dear ... - Bill paused, taking out a loaf of tobacco Of the small pocket of the dusty jacket due to the aridity of the place. He put it in his mouth and quickly chewed, as if the mere mention made him nervous, apprehensive. - All important and necessary, any service for these gears, so to speak ... Essential ... Documents, records, decisions, signatures, officers ... It belongs to someone in the S family. If it is not an S, be at service Strategic of the one S.
- But how is this possible these days? - Marc asked, indignant and surprised.
- It's like this ...- Bill began, his voice low, fearful. He looked around once more, to make sure there was no one around snooping around. - It's an M ... A .... F .... I .... A.
Ann had distracted herself by watching a huge, majestic black buzzard flying overhead, over the city theater, from which a distant melody came. Bill seemed to chew the words hesitantly along with the tobacco he chewed, so added to the midday heat and the absence of refreshing breeze, the dust that clung to sweaty clothes and bodies, Ann did not hear. The words spok so low and slow.
- What did you say? I did not hear it right. I did not, Bill. - Said
Ann, paying more attention.
Bill spat out the dried tobacco already chewed to the limit. He seemed more and more afflicted, fearful, always examining around, as if expecting someone jump out of the bushes and cacti suddenly.
- I said ... The S family command all over town. They're a Mafia! - Cochichou Bill. He took off his hat and Combed hair his long black hair with hand.
He shook with the brim of her hat. Sweaty, it is not known whether by nervous or by the suffocating heat.
- I understand. But someone has to make them stop then, Bill. - Marc said. - No one is above the Law. Nor the S. Family. Certainly, the Capital City does not know this.
Bill put his hat back on, scratched his hands, put his arm across his forehead to wipe the sweat with his sleeve.
- Whoever goes against the wishes and interests of the S, does not work in this city. That at least. Bill said, visibly sad and tired. - Your mother did everything with the SFamily in the rear. She paid for it and paid well. There are two S and a half in his pocket. One acts there, another there. One completes the service that the other starts, she and he.
The registry office, that important building I showed you, from where everything comes out big, there, and the building next door ... Everything, everything here in this city, has a S to forehead. They sneak into the important and varied offices, the tentacles are everywhere.
Some paper, delay, approve ... Everything has the finger of the S Family. It was not different in your father's inventory, it was not different in the two properties of yours ... And what followed ... The S family command be everything. The arm that has commanded the rudder for decades and moves the mill blades in SCity.

SCity/ A Família S

- Marc...Ann... – Cumprimentou Bill, inclinando a cabeça amistosamente, o chapéu já empoeirado e brilhando sob o sol à pino.
- Então, Bill? Quais as novidades?
– Perguntou Marc, indignado e surpreso.
- É uma M...A....F....I....A.
– Cochichou Bill. Tirou o chapéu e coçou a longa cabeleira negra.
No mínimo. Some papel, atrasa, aprova, acaba...
